The at-home/in-office hair test is easy to do, accurate, and requires just a small sample of head hair. This test is a great way to verify that the person being tested has not been frequently vaping/using tobacco products.
The hair test requires a half inch inch of hair, which allows detection of tobacco product use over the past ~two month. The sample should be collected close to the scalp, and weighing at least 0.004 ounces, the equivalent of a quarter-teaspoon of hair.
The sensitivity cut-off of this test is 0.2 ng/mg. This is the level found in non-smokers by tobacco researchers. So individuals who do not routinely use tobacco products will test negative. Vapors, smokers, and others who use tobacco products will test positive.
Individuals living in smoke free homes should always test Negative at the cut-off level unless they are exposed to frequent tobacco smoke, from cigarette, vapor or other tobacco use devices.
